This cake reminds me so much of my childhood, my mom used to make it on every special occasion. I have never tasted a cake like this, it is so moist and has just the perfect amount of chocolate. Please please try this recipe, it’s really a goodie.
INGREDIENTS
1 1/4 cup of sugar
1 tsp of bicarbonate of soda
2 tsp baking powder
3 eggs
2 tsp vanilla essence
1 cup of plain yogurt
2.5 cups of flour
Pinch cream of tartar
175 g margarine
3 tbsp drinking chocolate
For the Sauce:
1 1/4 cups of milk
75 g butter
1 cup sugar
6 tbsp of drinking chocolate
EQUIPMENT
1 electric beater
1 sieve
1 large Pyrex dish
1 small pan
METHOD
Preparation 10 minutes
Cooking time 45 minutes
Preheat the oven to 190C.
Sift the dry ingredients in a seperate bowl.
Cream the margarine and sugar with the electric beater. Once creamed, add the eggs.
Then, alternatively add the dry ingredients and the yogurt. Then mix in the vanilla essence.
Pour into the dish and bake for 45 minutes.
For the sauce:
Place a saucepan on high heat and boil the butter, sugar and drinking chocolate. Remove cake from the oven. Slice the cake into squares, leave the cake in the dish.
Then pour the sauce evenly over the cake.
Serve warmed with a dollop of cream/yogurt or custard.
